Protesting in Washington, D.C.

The Green Party of Colorado stands with the tar sands protests taking place in Washington D.C against the Keystone XL Pipeline. As of today, almost 1000 people have been arrested for standing up to the dirty fuel economy that has strangled our country for generations. As Colorado citizens, we understand that oil and natural gas have supported our economy up to the current day. As global citizens we know that it is up to our country to lead the way in clean fuels and a green economy.

This week, GOP Governor Heineman of Nebraska has called on the President to reject the Keystone XL Pipeline. Just as environmentalists have known for years, running pipelines isn’t just an issue of the damage caused by their installation. Leaks and spills will have ecological impacts for decades to come. Once these multinational corporations have their fingers dug into the Canadian tar sands, it will be impossible to remove them.

Bob Kinsey, Green Party activist and former candidate for U.S. Senate, had this to say concerning the continued abuse of our planet’s limited resources: “Whatever the judgment on the environmental dangers of the pipeline itself, the social costs of facilitating the continued use of fossil fuels– to our health and that of the planet –are unacceptable and most probably, suicidal. Public policy must be radically altered to favor the build out and use of sustainable energy from the sun.”

Stand with our planet today!

  1. Go to TarSandsAction.org. Sign the petition to President Obama. Spread the word to your family and friends.
  2. Call your governor and representatives today. Let them know that where they stand on this issue will be something you remember come election time.
  3. Link yourself to 350.org and their information network. They have tools to help the private environmentalist arm herself against the industry’s propaganda.
  4. Finally, encourage your friends and family to register Green, and have discussions with them about Green philosophies. Discuss the Ten Key Values and encourage your peers to register Green and become involved any way they can.

Strive to set a good example of nonviolent, conscious, forward-thinking living.

Blessings!
