On Sunday, July 21, the Green Party of Colorado (GPCO) voted to awarded four of five their pledged delegates to Dr. Jill Stein, the presumptive nominee of the Green Party of the United States. One vote will be casted for None of the Above. The official 2024 Green Party Presidential Nomination Convention will occur August 15–18. The delegate threshold for the Green Party presidential nomination is 211; after winning Colorado, Dr. Stein has an estimated 231 pledged delegates.
“We were delighted to welcome Greens from both county parties and state caucuses as well as visitors from other states,” said GPCO Secretary Sierra Garcia about the meeting.
Also during the GPCO state meeting, members elected Longmont’s Patrick Dillon and Denver’s Desmond Wallington, PhD, as the state co-chairs. Unlike the other nine political parties in Colorado, who elect one person as their chairperson, the Green Party elects two co-chairs to head their party in an effort to decentralize power within the party. The goal is to make the internal business “painfully democratic” by preventing power from concentrating at the top.
GPCO values grassroots activism and strives to cultivate local political organization. “The Green Party of Colorado, like voters across our state, are ready for a fresh start. That’s why we’re focused on our mission to create a Colorado that puts people over corporate profits and ask our neighbors to join our growing grassroots movement,” said newly elected Co-chair Dillon.
