Green Party Announces Robust Challengers to Bennet, Polis
Magnetic Colorado politician targets vulnerable U.S. Senate seat
Centennial, CO — The Green Party of Colorado nominated candidates to run against several federal incumbents representing the Centennial State, as well as a state legislative seat, at their state nominating convention on Sunday, April 3.
The energetic, former twice-elected Eagle County Commissioner, Arn Menconi, received the Green nod on Sunday. “It’s with great gratitude that I’ve received the nomination by the Green Party of Colorado as their U.S. Senator candidate,” said Menconi.
Regarding his goals, Menconi continued, “I will fight to end the military industrial dominance of our government with its endless greed and killings, end our dependence on fossil fuels by 2050, fight for single payer healthcare for all as a right not as a privilege and break up the Big Banks and power of Wall Street that has been stealing resources from our children and grandchildren.”

In a strong reaction to recent events regarding local control of fracking and manipulation of the state’s constitutionally-protected ballot initiative process, board member of the Colorado Community Rights Network (CoCRN), Cliff Willmeng, was also nominated by Greens yesterday.
“Colorado’s communities, workers, families, our environment, and our basic human and civil rights can no longer accommodate the answers being handed to us by powerful and disconnected representatives,” stated Willmeng.
Willmeng laid out the focus of his campaign, saying, “Too much is at stake, and entire generations depend on a clear alternative to the tragic policies of war, environmental destruction, racism, poverty, and elevating levels of human disenfranchisement. Another world is possible, and it is going to take an emboldened and audacious movement of the 99% to realize it.”

Also receiving nominations were Robert Lee Worthey for Colorado District 6 (seat now held by Rep. Mike Coffman) and former Thornton councilwoman Jenice “JJ” Dove, for Colorado state House District 34 (seat now held by State Rep. Steve Lebsock).
Worthey is a recent transplant to Aurora who serves as the director for Mountain Majesty, a grassroots, all-age ensemble based in the Aurora/Denver metro area. He is a career musician and music educator originally from Mentone, Alabama.
Says Worthey, “I am thankful for my nomination to represent the Green Party in my campaign for the Colorado Congressional District 6 seat and will press forward fervently and unwaveringly. We are no longer the alternative. We are the imperative!”
JJ Dove is a long-time resident of Adams County and launched a second career in politics after retirement from the private sector. She was elected as Thornton Ward 1 councilwoman in 2012. JJ will bring her signature compassion and listening skills to her work as the state representative of HD 34, if elected. She says, “I am grateful for the nomination. We will bring awareness to the Green Party, and I will listen and do my part.”
