The Green Party of Colorado is urging voters across the state to hold Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper accountable for their recent votes against S.J. Res. 111, S.J. Res. 113, and S.J. Res. 115.
These Joint Resolutions of Disapproval (JRDs) aimed to block military sales to the Israeli government that could exacerbate the ongoing humanitarian crises in Gaza. These additional arms sales follow the provision of $18 billion dollars in military aid and over 50,000 tons of military equipment that the United States has supplied to Israel in the past year.
Key Resolutions:
- S.J.Res.111 β To block 120mm tank rounds.
- S.J.Res.113 β To block 120mm high-explosive mortar rounds.
- S.J.Res.115 β To block JDAMs (guidance kits attached to many bombs used in Gaza).
Last night, the Senators made their position clear – three times – that they will put the interests of the military-industrial complex over the people of Colorado. By voting against these resolutions, Senators Bennet and Hickenlooper have disregarded US and international law to continue taxpayer-funded support of famine and genocide in Gaza.
The Green Party of Colorado believes in grassroots democracy that holds elected officials accountable for their decisions, especially when those decisions contradict the values of their constituents. We call on voters to engage in discussions about foreign policy and advocate for representatives who prioritize peace over militarization.
Call to Action:
- Contact The Senators: Express your concerns directly about their votes on these resolutions.
- Join Local Grassroots Peace Movements: Engage with organizations advocating for peace and accountability in foreign policy.
- Run for Office: Become a candidate who aligns with the Colorado values of transparency, accountability, and a commitment to human rights.
Simply put, we believe itβs necessary that Senators Bennet and Hickenlooper face real pro-peace challenges to their upcoming reelection bids because Colorado, the United States, and human rights around the world are suffering under their leadership.
