Susan Hall – 2012 Candidate for U.S. Representative, Colorado District 2
Today- July 23, 2012: I’m going downtown to connect with other 3rd Party members who are in agreement about Sec. of State, Scott Gessler, not changing the election rules having to do with who and how the Canvass Board members are chosen. Bill Bartlett posted the following on this Colorado Greenparty Website,
The new rules would allow the county clerk to pick canvass board members for the minor
political parties, effectively “rubber stamping” the clerk’s agenda . The state chairs are united in their conviction that independently appointed canvass board members are critical to the integrity of elections.
July 22, 2012: I went to a small organized group at Louisville Community Park with MoveOn.org. Some of us were disappointed the beginning structure of the meeting negatively introducing a political candidate for president and aligning him with the elite 1%. Although the candidate, Mitt Romney, Move On.org spoke of in their prepared agenda certainly contributes to the problem of inequality and disproportionate wealth, there are quite a few that could be mentioned.
However it was still a good meeting, since after the meeting we all had time to share more openly our concerns and knowledge. One of my opponents who is also a candidate for U.S. House of Rep. D2
was there and brought out some excellent points. One of the men who was attending, Mr. Wilson brought up two important concerns. He said he was concerned that there was such a low rate of voters determining the outcome of the elections. However he stated the issue he is most concerned about is the condition of the environment. One young woman had suggested that if the U.S. wanted to include more young people they should host events with bands and make it more fun. I would enjoy going to some events with bands and dancing. Another woman brought up two issues I have been concern about for some time. I was so glad she brought up the issue of Human Rights and how Amnesty International is working to free the cleared victims in Guantanamo. This encourages me that people truly do care about the conditions of their neighbors and our society. Of course two specific victims that Amnesty International has asked him
to release out of the more than 100 who have been cleared for many years, is the British Father Shaker Aamer, and the young man who he made to endured a military trial after he said he would not do these and follow Pres. Bush’s policy. Two months after his election he held a military trial for the Canadian Omar Khadr who had been injured, tortured and kept in Guantanamo since he was 15 yrs. old. He now has served his sentence and still remain imprisoned.
The other issue is one shared by many, which is why the Green Party is doing so well in Europe and not in the U.S. I will leave that for others to bring up ideas they have on the issue, though it is certainly of the utmost importance.
The next experiences I will be writing about are how the 3 town meetings went that were held in Boulder, Westminster, and Erie. Although Tom Moore did write an article about the one in Boulder. I will also be writing about
how the campaign and petition drive is going to keep fracking out of the Longmont City limits and what I said and observed at the last Longmont City Council meeting.
